Below are some sights, experiences, and excursions to enjoy during your stay.
1. Piazza San Marco & Basilica San Marco
The heart of Venice. Best enjoyed early in the morning or late in the evening when it’s cooler. Inside the basilica, the golden mosaics are especially stunning in the summer sunlight.
2. Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale)
An essential Venetian landmark. Consider booking the Secret Itineraries Tour for access to hidden rooms, the old prisons, and the Bridge of Sighs with fewer crowds.
3. Rialto Bridge & the Grand Canal
Walk across Venice’s most famous bridge and explore the small nearby markets. For a cooler option, take a vaporetto ride along the Grand Canal at sunset.
4. Gallerie dell’Accademia
A perfect stop during the hottest part of the day. Home to masterpieces by Bellini, Tintoretto, Veronese, and Tiepolo.
5. Peggy Guggenheim Collection
A beautiful modern art museum located in a palazzo on the Grand Canal. Shady garden areas make this a comfortable July visit.
6. Teatro La Fenice
Even if you don’t attend a performance, the theatre tour is wonderful. It’s fully air-conditioned—perfect for a midday activity.
7. Murano & Burano
A classic half-day boat excursion.

Burano – The Colorful Island
Famous for its vibrant houses, quiet canals, and lace shops. Best visited early in the morning to avoid midday heat.
Our favorite restaurant in Burano: Trattoria Al Gatto Nero (The Black Cat)
8. Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore
Take the elevator to the top of the bell tower for one of the best panoramic views of Venice—often far less crowded than San Marco.
9. Punta della Dogana
A striking contemporary art museum set in a restored customs house. Beautiful architecture and incredible views of San Marco and the lagoon.
10. Bacari Tour (Cicchetti & Wine)
Enjoy a classic Venetian evening by sampling small bites and local wines. Some favorite stops include:
- Cantina Do Spade
- Al Bottegon (Cantine del Vino già Schiavi)
- Osteria Bancogiro
Perfect for a relaxed night out with friends.
11. Harry’s Bar
An iconic Venetian institution
(Mr. Cipriani inventor of Bellini and carpaccio)
12. Coffee in St. Mark’s Square
Experience the historic competition between two famous cafés:
- Caffè Florian
- Caffè Quadri
Both offer live music, spectacular ambiance, and classic Venetian charm.
